Extending Shelf
Life

The barrier materials used in co-extrusion exhibit outstanding barrier properties against oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapour, UV radiation, flavourings and toxic substances. Manufacturers of packaging for perishable contents use this technology to extend the shelf life of milk-based and fruit juice-based beverages. The protection from light and barrier against oxygen makes shelf lives of up to 12 months possible. Polypropylene (PP) has a special significance due to its high levels of transparency and heat deflection temperature of up to 96 °C, as a range of foods can be hot-filled. BEKUM has been a reliable partner in the field of co-extrusion for many decades with its process and machine technology.
